JK Education News: Govt mulls syllabus relaxation for classes 1st-9th
Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced on Thursday that the government is considering reducing the curriculum for students in grades 1 through 9 for the current academic year. The minister shared with a news agency that discussions are ongoing regarding a possible reduction in the syllabus for these classes, although no final decision has been made.
Minister Itoo stated, “We are looking into the possibility of easing the syllabus for grades 1-9, but no official decision has been reached yet.”
According to sources, the reduction—ranging from 10 to 30 percent—might be implemented due to fewer academic days this year, caused by the return to a November-December academic session. This shift is intended for grades up to 9th, with grades 10 to 12 expected to transition to the November-December schedule in the following year.
Additionally, the government has instructed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to schedule exams for grades 10 through 12 starting in February 2025 and conclude by the end of March. For grade 8, summative assessments will now be conducted by schools, beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.
This follows the 2022 directive in Jammu and Kashmir to adopt a Uniform Academic Calendar starting from the 2022-23 school year.
