Kashmir School Winter Vacation 2024: The Directorate of School Education, Kashmir (DSEK) has clarified that a decision regarding winter vacations for schools up to Class 9 will be made only after the conclusion of the JKBOSE annual examinations, which began today, November 25.

In a statement to the media, Tassaduq Hussain Mir, the Director of School Education, emphasized that the priority at the moment is to conduct the examinations smoothly and fairly. “There will be no winter vacations before the exam,” he reiterated, addressing concerns raised by students and parents regarding the timing of the break.

Winter Vacation 2024

Focus on Smooth Conduct of Annual Exams

The director made it clear that the annual exams are a critical focus for the education department, with all resources being directed towards ensuring that they are conducted efficiently and without disruption. This clarification puts an end to any speculation about early breaks, allowing students to concentrate on their exams without concerns over vacation timing.

Post-Exam Admissions to Begin

Along with addressing the vacation queries, Mir also highlighted that the admission process for the next academic session would commence after the annual examinations are concluded. This aligns with the usual academic schedule in Kashmir, which has been adjusted due to various factors, including weather conditions.

Manipur Cancels School Reopening Amid Rising Tensions

In a separate development, the Manipur government has decided to cancel the reopening of schools and colleges in the Imphal Valley and Jiribam district. Schools and colleges in these areas were initially slated to reopen on Monday, but due to ongoing violence in the state, the authorities have extended the closure.

The Directorate of Education – Schools issued a fresh order on Sunday night, stating that the school reopening order issued on November 24 has been cancelled. The order declared that all schools in the valley districts, including government, government-aided, private, and central schools, would remain closed on November 25 and 26.

College and School Closures Extended

A similar order was issued for colleges, with authorities citing the need to maintain peace and order in the wake of recent tensions. Schools and colleges in districts like Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Jiribam had been closed for about a week due to prohibitory orders following fresh violence in the region.

The extended closure of schools and colleges is part of efforts to ensure safety amid ongoing unrest in the state. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will make further decisions based on security conditions in the coming days.

While the DSEK in Kashmir is focusing on the smooth conduct of the annual examinations, students in Manipur continue to face uncertainty with the cancellation of the school reopening, as the state deals with political instability and violence. Both decisions highlight the challenges of managing education systems during times of disruption, with authorities in both regions prioritizing the safety of students and educators.
